My name is Patricia Eirin and I am in charge of Relaxation time in nursery and Pre-k.
As you may very well know we live in a stressful, competitive and fast paced society. Our children live in this world too. They have long school days and most of the time extra curricular activities, sports, languages, tutoring lessons, among other activities.
When they are stressed they don’t act like us adults, but they look tired, agitated, overly emotional or even aggressive.
I have attended several conferences and seminars of Yoga in education given by educators and professionals of the R.Y.E (Research of Yoga in education) founded by Micheline Flak.
What I do twice a week is teach and apply simple posture, stretching, breathing and relaxation techniques in these pre-school classes. First we rest while listening to relaxing music, then we practice simple movements of the joints, breathing and simple postures while making them use their imagination by creating stories and visualizations.
We finish by telling a story or singing a song in which you always see reflected how useful these techniques are to foster concentration and promote effective learning.
I believe that a pause in our busy lives is not only important but necessary at all ages.
Thank you
