This is a Must Read:   Why are certain sites blocked?

We utilize an internet filter and firewall approved by school networks worldwide and the State Department for all international K-12 schools. Sites that fall into the following categories may be blocked:

Inappropriate Material - Many websites contain either offensive material or photos and information that are not suitable for any academic environment. UAS is neither a cyber-cafe nor an entertainment complex. Please use common sense when selecting sites to visit within the school.

Dangerous Sites Chatting systems, hacker & game sites, personal blog portals, email and many other sites create security concerns for ALL users on our internal network by installing unauthorized software, spyware, site hijackers, keystroke grabbers or viruses on our machines without our knowledge. FACT: Many teen-related sites are dangerous.   Please act responsibly.

Bandwidth Killers - We have over 110 computers sharing two internet connections. Music & Game download sites, personal photo pages, e-postcards, online video/audio or internet gaming are unacceptable in a multi-user environment. While any of these will perform well on your single-user computer at home, they demand a huge percentage of our internet & network speed. They frequently overload our system.

Before staring endlessly at dozens of pictures of yourself,  download music or play online games, please remember that some of us are trying to use the internet for real studies and real work. Let's all try to be a little less selfish for everyone's benefit. The next time it may be you trying to get work finished but can´t because someone else is hogging our connections.

Time Wasters - Any website that does not relate directly to academic studies or research may be blocked if its usage frequently denies computer access to students who need to study. Examples are car showrooms, online auctions, lyric lists, game review sites, movie listings, etc. etc. Please show some respect for others.

Web Filtering is NOT a censorship issue. We are simply trying to insure that our computer resources are available to persons trying to be productive rather than have them wasted by a handful of inconsiderate users.

Note:  Some sites may be erroneously blocked due to a problem with language translation or a pop-up window that downgrades the site rating of the main site. In this case, please speak to the Systems Manager about the possibility of gaining temporary access to these sites.
