As with any website created in an academic environment, a wide variety of tools and programs are utilized to create departmental pages. Our site is no different, with everything from Microsoft Word & PowerPoint to Frontpage and Dreamweaver being used depending upon user expertise. We've tried to maintain compatibility with the widest range of internet browsers and have included various methods of accessing the information in case certain pages don't function on your internet browser.
If you encounter a page that won't load correctly or an image/video that displays improperly, your browser may not be configured to use a few common tools that we have used liberally throughout this site.:

Common Downloads |
1. Most forms, guides and handbooks are available in .pdf format. To open, print or save these documents on your computer, you require a recent version of Adobe Acrobat Reader. This is an industry-standard software utility that is available free-of-charge for download from Adobe. (Note: This is a big download. Please contact aamado@uas.edu.uy if you would prefer the reader on CD.) |
2. Some visual effects utilize the MacroMedia Flash browser plugin. If the box in the middle of our home page does not appear with a rotating slid show, it means you do not have a Flash-compatible plugin. To view them properly you will need to download the Flash viewer. It is available free-of-charge from Macromedia (now part of Adobe.) Note: We do NOT advise that you load the Yahoo Companion when installing Shockwave Flash. Simply unclick this option before proceeding with the Flash install. (a very short process) |

3. Javascripts control many of the pulldown selection boxes as well as the monthly calendars and event schedule. Some people believe that enabling Javascripts may create a security issue. Ours are safe and thoroughly tested, but if you prefer not to enable Java through your Internet Tools option, you can access most pages through regular page links except some visual tours, calendars and certain functions that rely on the scripts. (Some browsers do not include options for Java or Javascript plugins. If this is your case, contact aamado@uas.edu.uy for a solution.)
