Class starts right at the 8:00 a.m.. It is important that all students arrive at school no later than 7:55 a.m. If, for any reason, your child must be late for school, we ask you to call the reception (600 7681 ext. 100). When late, students need to get a late slip from the receptionist and bring it to the classroom.
Lunch tickets can be purchased in the reception area before 8:00 a.m. and during morning recess in the cafeteria. Please review the menu with your child whenever s/he will eat the school lunch. Our monthly school menu is published on the school’s web site.
Each child is responsible for copying the homework assignments into their homework notebook. Homework will not be posted on our class page. Grade 3 students will be required to finish incomplete homework during recess time.
Please remember that homework is a form of assessment in which the teacher can assess whether to move on to the next step or topic or whether to review the concepts. Therefore, the parents’ role is to ensure that there is time for your child to do homework and not whether the homework is all correct. If a student doesn’t understand a question it is recommended that s/he answer as best as s/he can rather than leave it blank. Assignments missed due to absences should be made up. An absentee folder containing the missed assignments will go home with the student the day they come back to school. It is recommended that all homework be turned in by the second day after returning to school.
Children are encouraged to bring a water bottle to school and healthy snacks. All wrappers need to be properly disposed of. Sun Protection: Please, send sunscreen (allergy tested) for your child, a wide brimmed hat and a pair of sunglasses (UV marked are best), all labeled with your child’s name.
I welcome open communication between us. I value and need parents’ input. If you have questions, concerns, or any thoughts about your child that you would like to share with me, please feel free to contact me. I try to return phone calls and e-mails the same day I receive them. My e-mail address is lwells@uas.edu.uy.
The communication booklet or the homework notebooks are very important. They provide a snapshot of your child’s day. Please, take time to review your child’s behavior and completion of homework assignments every day.
Each third grader is allowed to check out two library books per week. They are due a week from the date they have been checked out. If children would like to extend their time with a book, they can check it out again for one more week. The class library offers many options for reading material. Students are encouraged to check out class books as well.
(Drop Everything and Read) is a treasured part of our schedule. Children should have a book that is appropriate for their reading level during this time. Students are required to read, silently, for 10 to 15 minutes.
Spelling pretests are given every Monday. Students will choose words from the spelling list which they have to study during the week. On Fridays, the students will be tested on their words (those words that are highlighted in their orange spelling notebooks). Spelling lists go home every day in the student’s orange Spelling notebook. A complete list of all the months spelling words will be posted on the web.
The word of the week is a project the students have to do about a specific word. The project needs to be done by the student and should reflect her/his interpretation or investigation of the word. The students will be asked to present their project on Friday morning to the whole class. They should be able to say between 5 and 15 sentences and have something to show about the word. This could be a small poster or an item.
If your child has been prescribed medicine and needs to take it during school hours, please contact Elisa Pereira, our school Nurse to receive information regarding school policy on administering prescription medicine. You may contact Elisa Pereira at epereira@uas.edu.uy
Please send a toothbrush and toothpaste properly labeled to school. Children are required to brush their teeth after lunch. Back
