It seems as if the end of the semester is just around the corner, and we would like to share the following Elementary School activities with you:

  Standardized Testing

Each year, Blanca Goyret, our testing coordinator, organizes the administration of  our standardized testing. The Elementary IOWA Standardized   Testing   (Grades 2-5) started this week and will be finalized next Tuesday. During parent/teacher conferences the teachers gave information   regarding these tests, and a letter (hard copy and email) was sent out last Friday giving test taking details and test objectives.

As advised last year, our Grades 1 and 2 will also be taking this standardized test from now on. However, only Grades 2-5 took it this week since Grade 1 will be taking the test next semester when our first graders have more test- taking experience.

We hope to receive the results during the first few days of December.

Summer Weather

As soon as the spring weather comes along, Elisa Pereira, our school nurse, sends home a reminder regarding the importance of caps and sun protection for our students.

We decided that it would be beneficial to all for the school to offer official school caps. So, very soon, the school will be offering school caps with the school’s emblem embroidered on them. We have asked NARIO (company that provides our gym uniform) for a stock to have at school and as soon as we receive them, all parents will be advised.

This will be offered as an option since students may choose to purchase a UAS cap or bring their own one.

U.A.S. Photographs

It’s time once more for school photographs. We are planning on November 7-8  for our Elementary photos, so please keep these days in mind. An informational letter with the exact schedule will be sent out at the end of the month in our Friday folders.

As always, photograph samples will be sent home so parents who are interested can choose and order the ones they like.

Elementary Activities

Teachers are taking advantage of the pleasant weather and longer days to organize a number of activities. This month Grades 2 and 4 went on an all- day trip to the Animal Reserve in Piriapolis, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all those who went. The Nursery children and parents had a delightful hat- making activity and Pre-Kindergarten had a school pajama day suggested by Felicia Gelos, one of our students.

Upper Elementary Overnight End-of-Year Trip

As always, at the end of each November, the 4^th and 5^th graders go on an overnight trip taking turns going either to Salto, Rocha, or Florida.  This year, November 16-17, they will be going to San Pedro de Timote, an estancia in Florida (160 km. from Montevideo). The teachers have already sent letters home and have organized a meeting this coming Thursday with their 4th and 5^th grade parents.

The students and staff members are looking forward to this trip and the students are very excited since it is always an unforgettable experience for all involved.

 U.A.S. Thanksgiving Lunch

In the past our PTO has done a wonderful job of organizing everything for Thanksgiving, but this year we will be doing something a little different. Although the PTO will continue to be involved, this year our secondary students, elementary students, and staff will be sitting together and sharing their Thanksgiving lunch. Each elementary grade has been matched with a secondary grade and prior to this day they will be having a pre-Thanksgiving activity meeting and they will be working together to prepare decorations. The whole school will be celebrating this traditional holiday at the same time as one school family. 

Uruguayan Program End-of-Year Presentation

Another important date to mark on your agendas is the Uruguayan Program End-of-Year Presentation. Our Uruguayan Program ends its school year each December and our students will be having their end-of-year celebration on December 13. All Uruguayan and SSL (Spanish as a Second Language) students will participate.

All parents are invited and will be receiving both a Friday folder hard copy and an e-mail invitation later on nearer the event. 

Pareciera que el final del semestre se está aproximando y  quisiéramos compartir con ustedes las siguientes actividades de primaria:

 Exámenes IOWA

Cada año, Blanca Goyret, nuestra coordinadora de exámenes, organiza la administración de los mismos. Los exámenes IOWA de primaria (2° a 5° grado) comenzaron esta semana y terminarán el próximo martes. Los docentes informaron al respecto en las conferencias de padres y docentes y el viernes pasado se envió una carta (impresa y por correo electrónico) con detalles sobre estos exámenes y explicando los objetivos.

Como dijimos el año anterior, los alumnos de 1° y 2° grado de ahora en más, también tomarán este examen. Pero únicamente  los alumnos de 2° a 5° grado tomaron este examen esta semana y 1er grado lo tomará  el próximo semestre una vez que hayan adquirido más experiencia y práctica. 

Esperamos recibir los resultados en los primeros días de diciembre.

 Tiempo de Verano

Como es habitual cuando se aproxima la primavera Elisa, la nurse del colegio, envía un recordatorio con respecto a la importancia del uso de sombreros y de la protección solar para nuestros alumnos.

Hemos decidido ofrecer sombreros oficiales del colegio dado que sería beneficioso para todos, es por ello que en breve el colegio ofrecerá los mismos con el escudo del colegio bordado. Le pedimos a Nario (nuestro actual proveedor de uniformes de gimnasia)  un stock para mantener en el colegio y tan pronto lo  recibamos informaremos a todos los padres.

 Fotos de U.A.S.

Una vez más llegó el momento de las fotos del colegio. Estamos programando sacar las fotos de primaria en los días 7 y 8 de noviembre así que agradecemos que tengan esa fecha en mente. Recibirán una carta informativa con la programación al respecto a fin de mes en los Friday folders. Como en años anteriores, recibirán muestras de las mismas para que los padres interesados puedan elegir y comprar la(s) que más les guste(n).

Actividades de Primaria

Los docentes aprovechan el buen tiempo y los días más largos para organizar distintos paseos.  Este mes las clases de 2° y 4° grado fueron a la Reserva animal en Piriápolis a pasar el día y todos los que fueron disfrutaron plenamente. Los niños y padres de Nursery y PK hicieron sombreros y también vinieron el día viernes al colegio en pijama por sugerencia de nuestra alumna de PK, Felicia Gelos.

Paseo de Fin de Año de los grados superiores de primaria.

Los maestros de 4° y 5° grado ya están organizando el paseo de fin de año a San Pedro de Timote, una estancia en Florida, a 160 Km. de Montevideo. Todos tienen gran expectativa ya que esto es una experiencia muy enriquecedora para todos.

Almuerzo de Acción de Gracias  en U.A.S.

En el pasado, P.T.O. ha realizado un trabajo formidable organizado todo para la celebración del Día de Acción de Gracias. Este año haremos algo diferente. Si bien el P.T.O. continuará formando parte de la organización de ésta celebración, los alumnos de secundaria,  primaria y todo el personal del colegio se sentarán juntos para compartir el almuerzo de Acción de Gracias. Cada clase de primaria ha sido agrupada con una clase de secundaria y tendrán un encuentro previo a esta fecha para trabajar y preparar decoraciones. El colegio entero disfrutará esta celebración tradicional como una gran familia.

Fiesta de Fin de Año de Programa Uruguayo

El Programa Uruguayo finaliza su año lectivo y el 13 de diciembre todos los alumnos de PU y de SSL (español como segundo idioma) tendrán su fiesta de fin de año. Se invita a todos los padres a asistir. A la brevedad enviaremos una invitación por escrito en los Friday Folders y por correo electrónico
