Athletics Program

The purpose of the UAS Athletics Program is to enrich the education of our students by providing them with a range of fun and exciting activities in a safe environment.

The Program also provides opportunities to compete both locally and internationally. The Athletic Department strives to instill in our students the passion to become the best they can be regardless of skill level or age. The goal, regardless of age or team level, is to develop endurance, strength, self-confidence, teamwork, fundamentals and an understanding of the game. Our hope is that the students develop a lifelong commitment to healthy habits and a competitive spirit in athletics for life.

The activities are held Monday to Friday from 3:30 to 4:40 for Elementary groups and 3:30 to 5:50 for Middle and High School groups.

UAS offers coed soccer, basketball, volleyball and swimming (for all grades) as a part of the Athletics Program. The swimming team trains all year long and participates in semester interscholastic competitions and in an invitational swim meet against the other SAAC schools, usually in November.

The Friendship Games

The Middle School Friendship Games are competitions among UAS, Lincoln School (Buenos Aires) and The International School of Curitiba (Brazil), which provide opportunities for our Middle School athletes to compete internationally. In October, Lincoln and UAS meet to play soccer and volleyball, and in May all three schools meet to compete in soccer and basketball. This coming October, the competition will be held at UAS, and in May it will be in Curitiba.

As the main objective of the Middle School Athletics Program is participation, the Friendship Games are open to every Middle School student who attends practice on a regular basis.

South American Activities Conference (SAAC)

The South American Activities Conference was established in 2004 and UAS became a full member in 2008. It began as an athletic conference, but last year it took on a broader focus, as a Performing Arts event was included for the first time in the Tournament schedule.

Members Schools are Uruguayan American School (Uruguay) – UAS, International School of Nido de Aguilas (Chile) – Nido, Lincoln Schools (Argentina) – Lincoln, American School of Quito (Ecuador) – ASQ, Franklin D. Roosevelt (Peru) – FDR and International School of Curitiba (Brazil) – ISC.

These schools meet five times during the year, rotating as host schools, to organize volleyball, soccer and basketball tournaments, the swimming championships, and the performing arts event.
