NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY – NHS

The National Honor Society includes students who are academically strong with fine character. They become NHS members through an application process and faculty vote. The NHS held their Induction Ceremony in September 2015 for the 2015-16 new members. At the Secondary School ceremony, a candle was lit for each area of importance: Leadership, Service, Character, and Scholarship. The NHS members are student leaders and meet regularly with their advisor to plan their service and leadership opportunities for the school year.

The UAS NHS is very involved in the Service aspect of the organization. NHS service activities are divided into local service projects and international outreach. Recent local projects include collection of linens and bedding items, and a winter clothing drive for Hogar Maruja Sterling. The International outreach projects for NHS include promoting International Peace Day at UAS, with videos and activities, and supporting educational opportunities like the AASSA Service Learning Summit.
