11th Grade

Junior year marks a turning point. This is because for most students and families, it’s when college planning activities kick into high gear. Here are some things you can do this year to stay on track for college.

Class of 2027 (Grade 11) COLLEGE ADMISSION TIMELINE & CHECKLIST

AUGUST
1-31Ask your College Counselor any questions regarding any potential IB subject requirements (applies mostly for UK universities, not US). If in doubt, ask.
1-31Attend college representative visits (online/in-person).
SEPTEMBER
OngoingAttend individual college visits at UAS (IE, Bentley usually visit in September)
OngoingCreate your BridgeU account and take Career Assessments
5Attend EdUSA College Fair on UAS campus.
OCTOBER
OngoingAttend university representative visits (online/in-person).
OngoingRevisit your Morrisby (career) log in and organize assessments
NOVEMBER
1-30Attend university representative visits (online/in-person).
1-30Start to put universities that you are interested in on BridgeU’s longlist.
1-31Individual check in’s with Mr Taskin about Career results
3-7Create a bookmark folder for Morrisby (career) BridgeU and all other college links/search engines
DECEMBER
TBDAttend Grade 11 parent and student University kick off presentation (on University Admissions and application process)
JANUARY 2025
1-31Visit any universities that may be in the area you are traveling to.

FEBRUARY
Feb-MayUniversity Advisor family (individual) university planning meetings. Parents and students during student study period
1-28Continue to research in-depth university programs/courses.

Feb-MayAttend university representative visits (virtual/in-person). Continue to research in-depth university programs/courses.
1-31Bergin to draft your college essay/personal or motivation statement (creating a 1st draft) (click here and here for tips) Review IB/subject-specific entrance requirements for universities/ programs/ courses of interest. Ask Mr Taskin in persoon or by email any questions about this. Continue summer program research (click links for list to some programs)
APRIL
TBDMake a copy (then label with your ) and complete the “teacher recommendation questionnaire” (sent to students on April 16)
End of AprilPersonal statement/college essay(s)/ motivational letter first draft due.
MAY
Register for the IELTS/TOEFL/Duolingo (English B students or if required by the university).
14th 16th Attend university representative visits (virtual/in-person) May 14: (Stanford University, Penn, Brown, Duke) May 16: (NYU)
Continue to research in-depth university programs/courses. Develop long list of 10-15 universities and enter them into BridgeU platform
JUNE
SUMMER 2025
Register for the IELTS/TOEFL (English B students or if required by the university).
Try to visit and research university programs/courses. Understand and begin to search for scholarships. Click here for suggestions Revise the first draft of your personal statement, college essay, motivation etc. Second draft submitted when returning to campus in August, 2025.

*Submission date means that you should be ready to submit all documents by this date. It is also known as an “internal deadline”.

Submitting on-or before- this date is preferable. At the very least, you should be ready to submit and if you need a couple of more days to tweak anything, then you have the time to do that.
